DACS Acoustic Panels

At DACS, our approach to acoustic treatment combines science and art. The science is making it sound good. Not ‘better than it was’, but ‘good’. Sounding good is key.

What does ‘sounding good’ mean to us? At a fundamental level it means you make decisions fast and with confidence, and the results translate well; you won’t have to ‘learn the room’ or make adjustments that must be checked repeatedly. We aim for an RT60 of around .3s at all frequencies (with slight rise in the bass) ie no frequencies resonating in the room longer than others. Positioning prevents uncontrolled reflections blurring and muddying the image.

Room correction software and hardware can make improvements to a room, but they can only be part of the solution. Paul White wrote many years ago in SOS that you are attempting to solve a time domain problem ie a particular frequency resonates for longer in a room than others, with an amplitude/ frequency domain solution ie reduce the level of that frequency in the speakers. The problem is still there. That frequency is still resonating for longer in the room, muddying the image.

From there we move to looking good. Our absorbers are made of veneered lacquered MDF with an acoustically transparent cloth face. They can take their place alongside any other furniture; beautifully finished and built to last. Mounting them is easy and doesn’t involve impaling them or gluing them. We provide instructions, fixings, and a template. They mount vertically or horizontally, sit flush with the wall and can easily be moved .

The calculations we made to develop our kits for smaller rooms are based on certain assumptions about the rooms:

1 standard door

Walls and ceiling of plasterboard

Floor cover - light carpet

Ceiling height 2.3m

Target RT60 overall around 0.3s

Small Room

(Calculated for size 2m x 3m)

Medium Room

(Calculated for size 2.6m x 3.5m)

Large Room

(Calculated for room size 3m x 4m)
